U17 Boys: Oxfordshire 4-0 Berkshire

15 Mar

With a number of regular players missing due to injuries, Oxfordshire’s 13 players warmed up with enthusiastic intensity.

Oxfordshire started strongly making the ball do the work and avoiding individual battles in the midfield. Jon linking together with Jona whose speedy ways, and accurate passing down the right, pinned Berkshire back into their half and opened up some goal scoring opportunities, and short corners, which couldn’t be converted thanks to a strong defensive team.

Keeping the pressure on Berkshire’s defence Brandon lead a strong press. Capitalising on an error he won the ball in the right channel and found Niall who, with one handed trickery in the midfield, mystified Berkshire’s defence and with great vision found Thomson who deflected the ball past the keeper to make the scoreline 1-0.

Our second goal of the half resulted from a short corner, following pressure by Ben and Ieuan. Although Berkshire’s runners quickly surrounded Niall his skill and determination bamboozled the defence again, and he finished with a well placed ball into the top corner. 2-0.

Oxfordshire stamped their authority on the pitch early in the second half when Brandon’s shot was deflected in by Robbie. With their confidence growing, every single Oxfordshire player contributed to keeping long periods of possession. After forcing a long corner, Tim and Fernando performed a slick bounce pass resulting in playing the ball towards the p spot where Robbie was waiting. A quick strike of the ball off his back foot bumped the scoreline up to 4-0.

Callum was unlucky not to have scored after a forceful strike was blocked by the quick keeper – ball deflected into a brave defender’s face who barely blinked – thus not seen by the umpire!
