ROY WILLIAMS
21.1.54 – 24.3.15

It is with great sadness that we tell you all of Roy William’s death last Tuesday. He had been battling with cancer for just over a year. Roy has coached at the club and county over the past 20 odd years, principally with the U14 boys where his engaging style and passion for the game inspired several generations.

Roy has been one of the central pillars around which the ever popular Rover Oxford Festival has evolved over the last 23 years. His welcoming smile and light hearted banter on the microphone, while keeping everything in order and in perfect time, has kept this festival running along a reassuring and dependable groove. He has been a hard act to follow – but follow we did last weekend by doing our best to keep everything running in the way that would make him smile.

We have lost a great friend and a true ambassador of all the decent sporting values – but for his family, June, David and John there is the loss of a beloved father, husband and lifelong companion – our love and sympathy goes to them all.

Roy’s funeral will be on Thursday 9 April at 2:15pm at Oxford Crematorium with the wake afterwards at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel.

Family flowers only please but donations can be given if desired to Sobell House either on the day or sent to The Co-operative Funeralcare, 2 Hendred Street, Oxford, OX4 2ED.

Hedley Feast will officiate and will speak about Roy. Is there anything from your memory of Roy that you would like Hedley to include please email June (junemwilliams4@gmail.com). The service can only last half an hour and Roy has chosen the music with no hymns to be sung, but there will be time for a few people to speak if they would like to as Hedley will be able to accommodate that.
