Gareth Evans

3 Feb

It is with very great regret that we are advising you of the death of Gareth Evans. Gareth was a very well known member of the local hockey community.

Gareth first joined Rover Oxford Hockey Club as a goalkeeper plying his trade for the 4th and 5ths. At the same time he took up umpiring and once he retired from goalkeeping quickly became a valued member of the appointed circuit umpiring games at 1st and 2nd XI level.

Gareth contributed for many years to Oxfordshire Hockey Association as disciplinary officer as well as being league secretary for divisions 1 to 3.

His contribution to local hockey will be sorely missed – and our thoughts are with his wife and children at this difficult time.

Gareth’s Memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Thursday 13th February at St James the Great, West Hanney, OX12 0LP.

The family have kindly requested no flowers but if anyone wishes to send a donation, Mind has been nominated as their charity of choice. Donations can be made at the Church on Thursday 13th or sent to:
