| Banbury's Jenny Nunneley wins England Hockey Club Coach of the Year award | |||
Banbury Hockey Club’s Coach Jenny Nunneley last night (Saturday 16 May) picked up the inaugural Club Coach of the Year Award at hockey’s first ever ‘Big Night Out’. Jenny has spent the last eight years building Banbury’s highly successful youth section - from fewer than 50 participating children to almost 200. Having developed the club’s youth development sides, Jenny drove Banbury’s ClubsFirst accreditation and now coaches voluntarily for three hours every Tuesday, as well as coaching the Oxfordshire U15s. As part of Banbury’s ClubsFirst status, Jenny set up club partnerships with five schools in the area and runs taster sessions with them, helping 30 of Banbury’s junior players progress to the county squads this year. Additionally, she has helped gain Sportsmark sponsorship for the club for three years, enabling investment in equipment, coaches and kit, and building the junior coaching team from two coaches to over 25 coaches and assistant coaches with a structured development plan. Jenny was unable to collect her award on the night, but on being advised of her victory prior to the evening, said that it was "a huge honour to have been nominated for this award and I am very grateul to Banbury Hockey Club for the continued support they provide for the junior section of the club. We have a valued team of coaches and very supportive parents who give up their previous time. "My thanks go to everyone at the club who make my role so enjoyable and particularly to all of the juniors who make it so rewarding. "I am sorry that I can't be with you to share England Hockey's Big Night Out and I hope everything goes smoothly and that it is a very enjoyable evening for you all." England Hockey’s Chief Executive said “To have the grassroots of the sport mixing with the elite as they have tonight shows the true spirit of the Hockey Family. The look on the faces of the award winners said it all. These people give their time week in, week out, and they do it for the love of the game. They don’t expect to win awards, so being able to give something back to these selfless individuals has been an absolute pleasure.” Andy Hunt, Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association commented “British sport wouldn’t exist and couldn’t run without the commitment from volunteers. It is always incredibly inspirational to see these individuals that have given up so much of their lives for the success of each of their sports. Some of the stories tonight almost brought you to tears really in terms of what the individuals said about what it meant for them but frankly what they have given to the sport is truly awesome.” | |||

| Rover/City win u14 Mercian Finals day... | ||
| The Rover/City combined u14 boys team won the Mercian finals at Old Loughtonians in Essex. This makes us the top side in the south for our age group!
The team played Woking in the semi-finals and won 7-4. Joe Brownill managed to bag 4 goals before being pulled off for a breather!
In the final we played High Wycombe, a team from our qualifying group whom we beat 6-5 in a thriller some time ago.
In the end we held on to win 1-0 after Joe Brownill had scored a short corner midway through the first half.
The final ten minutes saw us hold on with 5 short corners against us.
The last Oxford team to win this trophy was Hawks in 2001.
